New Category -- Roman Period
This is my period of special interest, it's the one I wrote my own historical novel about. There seems to be a perpetual interest in this topic -- there's a new version of the movie "Ben-Hur" this year. Now there's an interesting book to discuss --the novel "Ben Hur" (originally the name of a biblical character, by the way) was written by Lewis Wallace, U.S. ambassador to the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century, among other roles. A devout Christian, he visited Jerusalem and wrote his novel inspired by what he saw and felt there. How did the early visitors from the West view the land and use it as a backdrop for their literary work is a topic I would like to explore further.

Re: New Category -- Roman Period
I loved the movie Ben Hur as a kid, so when the audio book came up at a discount, I bought it. I confess that the dense, flowery 19th-century style of writing stopped me cold after an hour. It's like Jane Eyre on steroids.
Maybe I'll get the ebook version so I can skip ahead to where the real story starts.
