I've just started "Murder at Mansfield Park" by Lynn Shepherd.

Must get round to reading more Morse books, although I think the earlier books are very different to the TV version.

I've just started Murder Will Out by Alison Joseph, one of the free ebooks I got in the run-up to the UK Historical Festival that Vanessa linked to in the "EBooks freebies and deals" thread. All the free books are published by Endeavour Press, so were probably already free at some point, but I'm not complaining!

Anyway the book features Agatha Christie investigating an actual murder, so it sounds promising enough. I'm imagining Murder She Wrote.

Some light reading...War and Peace. Because I have been loving the new BBC series with only some minor quibbles.

No historical fiction this year yet, but I've read "A Short History of Myth" by Karen Armstrong, which was interesting but by its nature not comprehensive and offered just one perspective, and "A Spool of Blue Thread", Anne Tyler's latest novel.

Currently reading "My Brilliant Friend" by Elena Ferrante, the first of a much-acclaimed Italian series of novels. This is set in the 1950s, so I guess it could be viewed as historical fiction.

Still on War and Peace (its a long novel) but I am casting longing glances at The French Promise.

I've just started "Winter Siege" by Ariana Franklin/Samantha Norman. My favourite period of history but the writing style is a bit..off. I know that sadly Ariana passed away and Samantha, her daughter, finished it, but I'm only a few pages in and already it's jarring. One of the characters has called (in her thoughts) the Empress Matilda an autocratic cow. It's reading more like random thoughts at some points, unless that's to reflect that the character is only a teenager.

Interest in HF: The first historical novel I read was Katherine by Anya Seton and this sparked off my interest in this genre.
Favourite HF book: Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell!
