Oh that's the best book of the whole series! Good luck with the house move.Lisa wrote:I've just started A Storm of Swords Part II: Blood and Gold by George R. R. Martin.
Reading is still going slooowly since we are now in the midst of moving house. Can't wait until everything is back to normal!

No Madeleine, although I've seen a Jane Eyre movie some time ago. The other sister wrote that, right? After WH I'm sort of hesitant. Lots of Bronte reading going on in October according to this thread though!Madeleine wrote:i agree with you, red, about the characters in Wuthering Heights, I thought Heathcliff and Cathy were awful too and sort of deserved each other, and I fail to see any appeal at all in Heathcliff, although I didn't hate it overall. Have you read Jane Eyre?

Finished Doris Kearns Goodwin's No Ordinary Time:Franklin & Eleanor Roosevelt: The Home Front in World War II. The Roosevelts are so interesting along with the cast of characters that lived YEARS sometimes at the White House when they were there. When I was a teenager I went to their home in Hyde Park & I remember so many, many gifts they received displayed there. I wish I had known more about them then.
Also finished Steve Berry's The Patriot Threat. Started off very Dan Brownesque. It was the first Berry I'd read/listened to. Actually it was the reason I picked up the Kearns Goodwin book, because FDR was a character in The Patriot Threat. I give it a 3.5/5. I did very much enjoy the author's comments between some of the chapters in the audiobook which explained how SOME things in the book were factual.
About 80% done with Alan Furst's Dark Voyage. Just getting to a very suspenseful spot! So glad to have discovered this writer. Very NON-Dan Brownesque

Re: What are you reading October 2015
Yes, Charlotte wrote Jane Eyre. Most of the films stick relatively closely to the novel, although obviously it's very truncated - a TV series is probably more detailed, and they always seem to cast a pretty boy type actor as Rochester, nothing wrong with that of course but not quite the same as he is in the book!red805 wrote:No Madeleine, although I've seen a Jane Eyre movie some time ago. Re: What are you reading October 2015
I borrowed a library copy of Jane Eyre adapted as a graphic novel last week. Since I've read the original novel, I'm looking forward to reading this one.
To toss this out there, the youngest Bronte sister, Anne, wrote two novels. Her 2nd novel, Tenant of Wildfell Hall (1848), was adapted for TV and was on "Masterpiece Theater" in 1997. Here's an overview of Tenant from the show's archives.

Thanks! Neither Fred nor I have really slept in a week, so much to do!Madeleine wrote:Good luck with the house move.

I enjoyed Wuthering Heights, the characters were not likeable one bit but I enjoyed the melodrama of it all. Reminded me of being 14 - oh the agony of being away from the boy I liked (who didn't know I existed) over the summer holidays, and so on.Madeleine wrote:i agree with you, red, about the characters in Wuthering Heights, I thought Heathcliff and Cathy were awful too and sort of deserved each other, and I fail to see any appeal at all in Heathcliff, although I didn't hate it overall. Rick Riordan, author of the Percy Jackson YA novels is starting a new series about the Norse gods. The first novel, The Sword of Summer, was published last week and that's what I am reading now.
