I was at a reading group weekend away last week in the Peak District. Here're my BOGOF (buy one, get one free) purchases from the Book Barn (it's a great place to spend a few hours if you love books!):
The Poet's Wife by Judith Allnatt
Broadmaw Bay by F G Cottam
The Memory Box by Sarah Webb
The Shipping News by Annie Proux
The Autobiography of Mrs Tom Thumb by Melanie Benjamin
The Truth About Ruby Valentine by Alison Bond
The Woman in Silk by R J Gadney
plus some little board books for Maisie, my granddaughter!
And here are some books which I swapped:
Flora By Gail Godwin
Water's Edge by Sara Gruen
First Impressions by Charlie Lovett
The Secrets Women Keep by Fanny Blake
I've also received The Iron Necklace by Giles Waterfield via Real Readers to read and review. I haven't heard of this author before so a new one to me. Here's the blurb:

Into battle we ride with Gods by our side
We are strong and not afraid to die
We have an urge to kill and our lust for blood has to be fulfilled
WE´LL FIGHT TILL THE END! And send our enemies straight to Hell!

I have Ian Mortimer's books on Medieval and Elizabethan England and found them fascinating. He has a nice style, too. I use them often to check facts for my own writing.

Lamentations
I don't recognise some of these titles and wondered if they are US published? The book I bought myself over Christmas is Lamentations by C J Sansom. I haven't started it yet - I'm saving it, expecting a really good read.

I have and read Nicholas Nickleby published by Penguin Classics with a 2003 copyright date. It's one of Dickens's early novels; it was originally a magazine serial.
