Thought I would get a head start on next month.

Currently reading Great Expectations by Charles Dickens.
Into battle we ride with Gods by our side
We are strong and not afraid to die
We have an urge to kill and our lust for blood has to be fulfilled
WE´LL FIGHT TILL THE END! And send our enemies straight to Hell!
- "Into Battle"

Where did November go? I'm two-thirds through The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton. Beginning seemed a bit slow, but then it took off!

Interest in HF: started in childhood with the classics, which, IMHO are HF even if they were contemporary when written.
Favourite HF book: Prince of Foxes, by Samuel Shellabarger
Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.
Location: California Bay Area

Finished: The Brickmaker's Bride by Judith Miller
Looks to be the 1st in a series. The novel opens in 1868 West Virginia.

There's no historical note to point out those who are historical people apart from the characters. One example: Governor Arthur I. Boreman and his wife who appear in the story, hosting a party. Gov. Boreman was the state's first elected governor after it pulled away from Virginia.

Next: Paris Reborn by Stephane Kirkland (NF)
Details Paris's dramatic transformation during the 19th century.

Death Comes to Pemberley by P.D. James, although I almost abandoned it because I hated the boring first part which catches the reader up with what happened in Pride and Prejudice. I haven't read Pride and Prejudice since high school, but a character list with who's who would have been enough for me.

Finished The Midwife of Venice which I thought was okay. I had higher hopes for the book which had an interesting setting and a strong protagonist. However, I found the writing rushed, the plot twists strained (some to implausibility), and the characters insufficiently developed. Starting another ARC (I'm going to stop putting in for free books, it feels like that's all I read anymore!) called Rodin's Lover by Heather Webb.
