Samuel Black's The Burning Ground may just be one of those few books I fail to finish. I so wanted to love this book but just cannot. Part of the problem is that with the exception of Leonardo de Vinci, all the characters are portrayed as quite vile, which I guess they were.
Unfortunately the odd style and the obsessive use of show not tell means the story is not possible to follow even if you know the history behind it all.
