Reading When We Were Orphans by Kazuo Ishiguro. Didn't pick it up as a historical novel, but it certainly is one, set in Shanghai and London in the first three decades of the 20th century.

Is that the writer who was also known as Charlotte Lamb? She wrote one of my all time favourite romances called 'Secrets.' I bought the book from Amazon second hand books somewhere in the U.S.A. I shall look up Loves Bright Flame.

Interesting - I didn't know that Charlotte Lamb also wrote as Sheila Holland (which appears to have been her real name). Her daughter writes historical novels as Victoria Lamb.

The Winter King by Bernard Cornwell
Into battle we ride with Gods by our side
We are strong and not afraid to die
We have an urge to kill and our lust for blood has to be fulfilled
WE´LL FIGHT TILL THE END! And send our enemies straight to Hell!
- "Into Battle"

Just started "Marriage and Other Games" by Veronica Henry - sounds a bit chicky litty but it's set at Christmas and on Exmoor so I'm giving it a go, especially as I'm finding "Fear Not" rather slow, to say the least.

The Daylight Gate by Jeannette Winterson, a dark little folktale set around the 17th century Pendle witch trials in Lancashire. The spare but compelling style adds impact - the simplicity is deceptive. Sex and torture included - not a bedtime story for children!

(The daylight gate is the time of power between light and darkness)

When did we all get to be "senior members"? :D

Finishing The Poisoned Serpent by Joan Wolf. It was k but nothing memorable. This morning I started The Thief-Taker (Memoirs of a Bow Street Runner #1) by T.F. Banks. Not bad so far.
