Finished Jean Plaidy's Daughters of Spain and so now on to something totally for fun and giggles - Queen's Ransom by Anne Powers, a Wars of the Roses book about Margaret of Anjou, Anne Neville, Elizabeth Woodville and Elizabeth of York. It was also published as The Four Queens and The Royal Consorts. My cover is attached!

I have the Royal Consorts version, but my cover doesn't show nearly that much thigh!

I've just finished Lionheart by Sharon Kay Penman. I had had a rough time starting it, and I put it aside for several months. But I picked it up a week ago and could not put it down! I loved the details and the characterization. Of course, I really liked how Berengaria was portrayed! I cannot wait for the next book in the, trilogy, I think. I then tried to get into The King's Witch about the same time period, and found it to be inferior to Penman's tome. Now I'm finding renewed interest in this time period! :)

I liked it too. And you're right, this is the first book I've read that has really fleshed out Berengaria. I want to find out what happens next.

I'm enjoying reading Helen's daughter.

The Bull of Minos by Leonard Cottrell

We are strong and not afraid to die

Lionheart is actually the 4th book in what was supposed to be just three books. When Christ and His Saints Slept, Time and Chance, and Devil's Brood were the original three. SKP then decided she wasn't done telling Richard's story so she wrote Lionheart and is currently writing King's Ransom. I suppose you could consider her other planned book on Balian as a triology although I don't thnk that is what SKP has in mind. But who knows.

Finished CIC last night and started Finding Emilie by Laurel Corona. Pretty good so far.

Just finished The Promise by Lesley Pearse - if you like sagas you'll enjoy this one. It's a sequel to her novel Belle, which I haven't read, but I found The Promise a satisfying read as a stand alone. It's an easy read but that doesn't mean poor quality and it has been very well researched as far as I can tell.
Now beginning The Return of Captain John Emmett by Elizabeth Speller. 1920's. DH loved it and I've belatedly realised it's a Richard and Judy read, so we'll see.

Pride's Castle by Frank Yerby. New York railroad baron kind of thing. A slightly unlikeable hero. What fun.
