I wonder what it would be like to be an 80s romance novel cover artist?
I suppose they illustrated other things as well, but I like the idea of someone, somewhere, sitting in a studio and painting pictures (because they probably wouldn't be using a computer at that time) of half-dressed, muscular long-haired men ravishing buxom ladies in period dresses

There really are some talented ones. Max Ginsberg, wow. Tom Hall, and Pino of course. There are a fair amount of straight historical novels that were first hardback, and then ended up with Kensington/Zebra for the MMPB edition and then got slapped with those romancey covers. It's an adventure picking up one of those with no reviews, you never know what you'll end up with.
