How many times have you looked at a book cover and felt like you'd seen that one before? I know I've seen a few in the past (wish I'd tracked them now), but I thought I'd start and thread and see how many we can find.
We Speak No Treason
A Proud Taste for Scarlet and Miniver (thanks kasthu)
Shalimar by Rebecca Ryman
The Aviary Gate by Katie Hickman
The Perfect Royal Mistress Diane Haegar
The King's Favorite by Susan Holloway Scott
(well I guess maybe the last one is OK as they're both about the same person, Nell Gywn)

I happened to notice the other day the similarities between the cover of Elizabeth Chadwick's "Marsh King's Daughter"

and the new version of Barbara Erskine's "Lady of Hay"
http://www.harpercollins.com.au/books/9 ... index.aspx
I guess that there are probably stock images which publishers have access to.
Sorry, still can't do images- I've given up

That George Romney portait of Emma Hamilton as Circe has done sterling service

The Gérard portrait of Mme Julie Récamier

has turned up all over the place as well. I've also seen it on covers of Mary Balogh Regency romances.

I cant believe how many times some of the covers have been used. I think one was used 6 times.

Btw, the attribution for the various Cleopatra themed covers- "Memoirs of Cleopatra" etc is
Alexandre Cabanel's 1887 painting
"Cleopatra Testing Poisions on Condemned Prisoners"
Just remembered- that Cibot painting of Anne Boleyn at the Tower was also used on an older edition of Jean Plaidy's "Lady in the Tower"
