Nominations: November 2011 Book of the Month

Post by boswellbaxter » Tue September 6th, 2011, 5:31 am

Nominations for November are open to any historical novel. Please try to nominate one that hasn't been nominated before, and please make sure before you nominate that your choice is readily available in at least the US and the UK.

Nominations close September 10.

Can it be one that was nominated before but never won? I don't really know which ones have been nominated before. I guess Lionheart won't be released in the U.K by then?? What about E.C's Lady of the English then?

One that you haven't nominated before is fine. The operative word is "try"; I'm not checking past nominations.

The Darling Strumpet by Gillian Bagwell
A thrilling debut novel starring one of history's most famous and beloved courtesans.

From London's slums to its bawdy playhouses, The Darling Strumpet transports the reader to the tumultuous world of seventeenth-century England, charting the meteoric rise of the dazzling Nell Gwynn, who captivates the heart of King Charles II-and becomes one of the century's most famous courtesans.

Witty and beautiful, Nell was born into poverty but is drawn into the enthralling world of the theater, where her saucy humor and sensuous charm earn her a place in the King's Company. As one of the first actresses in the newly-opened playhouses, she catapults to fame, winning the affection of legions of fans-and the heart of the most powerful man in all of England, the King himself. Surrendering herself to Charles, Nell will be forced to maneuver the ruthless and shifting allegiances of the royal court-and discover a world of decadence and passion she never imagined possible.

Maybe we should cancel this month since no one really seems interested or do you think it's just because it's too far out??

We'll go ahead and do the poll, as two books were nominated.

I don't think it has anything to do with being too far out. I didn't nominate a book because I'll be participating in NaNoWriMo and may not have time to read a full book of any good length. Add Thanksgiving break, parent/teacher conferences, numerous half-days of school, and I may not even have time for sanity in November.

I'm just not currently reading/nor have plans to read anything I could nominate. I've either got ARC's from Vine or it's back to my huge pile of OOP's that no one else is interested in.

Everything I might nominate I've already nominated before.
