Derfel is a truely wonderful character and I think it's his narration that makes the book so great. I'm not a huge fantasy fan in general, however the magic of Merlin is a relatively minor facet of the story and was written by Cornwell in such a way that it did seem believable and didn't detract from Derfel's story. Since reading this series I've past the books on to many friends who've enjoyed it just as much as I did.[/quote]

I agree. While I have no problem with the usual fantasy-ish Arthurian stories (I love me a good Arthur story), I really enjoyed reading Cornwell's version of the legend. He presents it in a way that is quite believable.
Currently Reading: Crown in Candlelight, R. H. Jarmen
