Interest in HF: started in childhood with the classics, which, IMHO are HF even if they were contemporary when written.
Favourite HF book: Prince of Foxes, by Samuel Shellabarger
Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.
Location: California Bay Area

Since this was first posted, I have read the entire Shardlake series by C.J. Sansom, and they are going on my permanent favorite list. In order, they are Dissolution, Dark Fire, Sovereign, Revelation, Heartstone, and Lamentation. Matthew Shardlake, a hunchbacked lawyer, starts as an agent for Thomas Cromwell and, despite his desire for a quiet life, finds himself constantly mixed up with serious religious and political issues of the day, with plenty of very accurate pictures of life under Henry VIII in his later, and more deranged, years.

I can second that MLE, I've only read the first four so far, but they are great books, written from a slightly different view-point to the usual Tudor stuff, with the added crime element too. Dark Fire is my favourite.
