Given the comments of her review, I'd say give it a chance. Several readers recommend the book, despite her review. Certainly, after reading Legacy, it would be an interesting companion read.

My husband picked that up at a garage sale. I haven't read it yet but it looks like it might be good.

Wow. Old thread. IIRC I did get a copy of this from the library, but the previous borrower was a heavy smoker and I couldn't take it. The book was infested with the smell of it :(

Interest in HF: I can't answer this in 100 characters. Sorry.
Favourite HF book: Checkmate, the final novel in the Lymond series
Preferred HF: Literary novels. Late medieval and Renaissance.

Given what actually happened, plus a reasonably skillful novelist, this has a chance of being excellent. I really enjoyed Margaret Irwin's novel on the same subject, Elizabeth and the Prince of Spain (see review).
Browse over 5000 historical novel listings (probably well over 5000 by now, but I haven't re-counted lately) and over 700 reviews at www.HistoricalNovels.info
