Interesting article. I always notice that if you do a search of medieval, on Google News for instance, the main references are to horrific or intolerant events happening today - e.g. "Hating Muhammad echoes of a medieval polemic."
The Middle Ages were intolerant in certain respects - but were they more barbarous times compared our own era of mass genocide and mass censorship? Communist China cannot be described as medieval.
