5) Tulip Fever by Deborah Moggach; finished 1/25/15. This is by the same author who wrote The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, although that was not the original name of the novel. One of the characters was reading Tulip Fever in the film. I recently read The Miniaturist which also took place in Amsterdam during its Golden Age. Both novels have similar plot lines: young woman marries older merchant for money and financial security for her family and a birth is involved, although I think The Miniaturist is much darker. A film of Tulip Fever is scheduled to be released sometime this year with Christoph Waltz and Alicia Vikander playing the husband and wife. Alicia Vikander played Queen Caroline Mathilde in the Danish language film A Royal Affair, which was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.

9) The Accidental Empress by Allison Pataki; finished 3/8/15; I found this enjoyable and mostly historically accurate. Empress Elisabeth (Sisi) of Austria still pulls in the tourists in Vienna. I've been to both Hofburg Palace and Schönbrunn Palace and there is so much about her in both palaces. This novel does not cover all of Sisi's life and the author hints that their will be a sequel.
