yes the scenery's fabulous isn't it - I managed to read this whilst on hols at one of the resorts on Lake Garda, which helped tremendously with the atmosphere - and we even had a couple of storms as well!

Wow, Madeleine, you were right at the setting! I saw on Susanna Kearsley's website that the character of Galeazzo D’Ascanio and his home were inspired by the real life poet Gabriele D’Annunzio and his home Il Vittoriale which is on Lake Garda. Did you see it?

No we were staying at a different part of the lake, although I've stayed in the area where the book is set on an earlier visit, bit I didn't know about D'Annunzio then (mid 1990s).
