I had some extra money to burn (doesn't happen often!) and ordered Lewis's Wife to the Bastard and I, Jacqueline. I haven't read this author before and was curious if anyone else had and what he/she thought!

I enjoyed her novel about Queen Isabella (Edward II's queen), Harlot Queen. On the other hand, I didn't care much for her novel Wife to Great Buckingham (Katherine Villiers, Duchess of Buckingham)--I think I have a review of the latter on Amazon. I started Wife to the Bastard but couldn't get into it and put it aside.

I read The Gentle Falcon, a novel for young readers, back in high school. (Now it's out of print) It's about Isabelle, Richard II's young child Queen, narrated by her English lady-in-waiting Isabella Clinton.

I made it halfway through I, Jacqueline before giving up, a rarity for me because normally if I get that far, I'll finish it. I was disappointed because I'd had the book on my wish list forever (this was before the reissue). It could have been my mood, but the heroine seemed wishy-washy and none too bright. Maybe it would have gotten better if I continued.

She was bog standard library fodder when I was a teenager. I was never that struck I admit. I probably did read her, but I can't remember. She was generally viewed as a Jean Plaidy read-alike.

I've read Wife to the Bastard and thought it was OK.
