I would agree that the sense among traditional publishers is that historical fantasy is not a big money-maker. While I think it's perfectly okay to write in two genres (lots of authors do it!), I think you need to write what you're passionate about. As MLE said, she doesn't read what you write and wants you to write what she reads. Which is fine as far as it goes, but you need to write what YOU want to write...
