How should we discuss history?

I will note before I go any further that I am writing from a place of extreme annoyance right now. I know I should wait until I have calmed down, but that's not the point of a rant, is it? ;) And perhaps more level-headed and more intelligent people here will help me see where I am wrong as I cannot...

Re: looking for YA readers

Okay I may be the only one a bit confused, but are you afraid that this new novel will come off as equally violent? Do you work with an agent? I would assume that he or she would know the appropriate publisher(s) to submit to. If you're doing this on your own, without an agent, have you tried other ...

Re: What audiobooks are you listening to?

I am currently listening to the third book in a series by JK Rowling published under her pseudonym Robert Galbraith. Quite good, in my opinion. They are detective novels. Hope there are more.

Quotes at Each Chapter

I don't think this phenomena is exclusive to any particular genre, but I'm currently juggling both HF and detective fiction at the moment. In the latter books, the author has chosen to insert a quote at the beginning of each chapter. That is, there's the chapter number, then the quote, then the cont...

The Crown Spire by Cathrin Curzon & Willow Winsham

I must begin this review with the statement that I do not normally read romance novels. I gave up on them ages ago as unrealistic and not anything to fawn over as so many do. So then your next question, and rightfully so, must be: so why did you read this book? Well, I did so because Catherine is a ...

Owen by Tony Riches

I was thrilled to learn of this book that covers the life of Owen Tudor, the Welshman from whom the famous or infamous Tudor Dynasty stems. When the story opens, Owen is roughly 22 years of age and he is about to meet his new mistress, Henry V's widow, Queen Catherine of Valois. Henry has died, leav...

Re: Life in the Georgian Court by Catherine Curzon [NF]

I was glad of the forewarning in some of the stories in the last section on Death. Some of them were a bit squeamish, but over all the book was enjoyable. I'd have to say the biggest thing I learned was how indecisive King Louis XVI was, which led to the Third Estate hating him and his downfall. Oh ...

Life in the Georgian Court by Catherine Curzon [NF]

Life in the Georgian Court a pared down overview of what life was like for the ruling elite of Europe and Russia. As with anything that gives a brief accounting of aspects of the royal lives, it's up to the individual reader to follow up with in depth reading of other sources to get the full extent ...

Re: Calling All Ancient Roman Experts

I thought I heard recently that it was actually the Greeks who did the bingeing and purging.
