Not to hijack the thread, but I personally would also like to see fiction about Cartimandua, one of Boudica's contemporaries. A friend of mine is apparently descended from her and he got a little miffed when I told him how much I enjoyed Boudica's story, indicating she wasn't the o...

How nice. I used to have the naive idea - and I'm sure many writers on this forum would agree it's naive- that if someone else "did" a topic it was off limits. But so many of us are hovering around a limited pool of historical figures and stories that there is always overlap. Especially with the Cel...

Enelya, I only know of Manda's and The Eagle and the Raven (which I've only just started). But Margaret's site http://www.historicalnovels.info/ lists some others on the Ancient History page, under Roman Britain. I didn't know Anya Seton wrote a book set at that time: "Anya Seton, The Mistletoe and ...

Did you hear that over here in the UK one of the local councils has given up on apostrophes altogether? They just decided to ditch them from road and other council signs.
I've wanted to read this one but haven't bought it yet. It isnt at my library so I would have to get my own copy. What are your thoughts about it so far?
I literally just started. Really lovely fluid writing, very vivid. I am familiar with this world already, so it made me f...

I agree with everyone. Bad reviews feel like someone stabbed you in the chest (aargh) but EVERY writer gets them, and the biggest get the most, because more people are reading. People have wildly varying tastes. Take heart, it's normal. BTW As time went on I stopped obsessively googling my reviews. ...

Just starting The Eagle and the Raven by Pauline Gedge, a book she did years ago about Boudicca and the Romans. People rave about it, but I avoided it for some time so there was no cross-pollination with my own. It was out of print but has just been re-released if anyone wants it!

Thank you for all your kind welcomes and encouragement. I see I not only have reading to catch up on, but reading of previous forum posts to catch up on! EC2, love your books. Leyland, my husband plays cello and guitar at a traditional music "session" at our local pub, a feast of Scots and Irish fol...

hi from bonny Scotland

Hi everyone, I just joined. I'm an Australian of British parents, now in the highlands of Scotland. We get around! Always obsessed with historical fiction, particularly anything about the Celts, early Britons, Romans, and Saxons. I'm a Celtophile! I started writing novels about my fav topic, ooh, ye...
