My favourite character's Jaime - after the first book at least! :D Second favourite is one that's not introduced until later, I was rather stressed when I thought they were dead, seeing as Martin has no qualms about killing off characters at the drop of a hat... But Tyrion's a close favourite after ...

I enjoy reading short stories, not just for their usefullness when commuting or having an otherwise-busy life. I've founf that they are a way of introducing me to new authors - I found both Peter Tremayne (Sister Fidelma) and Steven Saylor this way, to cite a specific HF example. I'm also amazed at ...

I can possibly help with someone's confusion as to whether there was 4 or 5 books published before A Dance with Dragons. The 3rd book (Storm of Swords) which is the longest book so far, was published in 2 books when the "normal" sized paperback was released - it's too big to publish in one book. The...

I finished up my temp assignment today, and got a lovely bunch of flowers from my workmates. I was certainly not expecting anything at all, so it was a lovely surprise! It's nice to be appreciated, especially as I'd only been there for 6 weeks. And I got a call from a place that I had an interview a...

Africa is the dominiant world power, not Europe / America, Wiki link to info Kim Stanley Robinson - The Years of Rice...

Got a new job on Friday, which means I was only out of work for 2 days last week.

And it's in the city, so I'll be taking public transport instead of driving. which gives me about an extra 2 hours of reading every day! :D

SLOC and I went to see Harry Potter and the Philosophers (Sorcerers) Stone yesterday. One of the cinema chains are running a special deal in the lead up to the final movie, in that they are playing the older movies 2 sessions a weekend. It was interesting to see what type of audience attended. We we...

Sadly the Borders stores here are shutting, so they're having big sales to get rid of stock. Not that I need a sale to buy more books... Anyway, yesterday I got a couple of non-fictions, and some novels I'd been thinking about. I probably could have bought more, but the queues for the reg...
