It's supposed to be 60 F today, 65 tomorrow. Rain both days. It's like late spring. Very odd for late January in the US Midwest. The bulbs on campus are already confused after a similarly warm spell in mid-December.

Wonderful review, Carla! I completely agree with your assessment. I didn't realize Fridgyth herself was in Bede, too.

Thanks for posting the link to my review, Annis. I hope the book does well - it deserves it! I just finished Theresa Tomlinson's A Swarming of Bees , a mystery set at the time of the Synod of Whitby, with an herb-wife as the heroine. It's the author's first adult mystery (she usually writes for children). The link is to my review; I've been trying to review my own purchases more and more.

Having just finished Pamela Hartshorne's new time-slip Time's Echo, I've moved on to Alan Hollinghurst's The Stranger's Child, which I got out of the library yesterday.

Interesting - I didn't know that Charlotte Lamb also wrote as Sheila Holland (which appears to have been her real name). Her daughter writes historical novels as Victoria Lamb.

What the first poster implied sounded a little odd, so I went back and reread Mary's post on the HNS list. She'd said that she wasn't allowed to plug books by her talented friends in the community, which makes sense. Review outlets will typically ask writers to avoid reviewing books by friends, as i...

Also, I remember seeing her announcement of a spring 2013 pub date, but it's not listed on Amazon yet.
