Me too. Do you think there should be some restriction on the age youngsters are taught to use firearms though? If they didn't know how to fire and reload, there might not be the same amount of deadly high school shootings . . .
I will have to look at that later. I am too heartsick about two school shootings in the Pacific Northwest in less than a week
Sorry to hear this. The news report looks at incidents since Sandy Hook. I, however, think Columbine started the "Cult of Eric and Dylan" for...

Is there more gun violence today than in the Wild West?

Are there really more shootings happening today than in the past? Or are we just made more aware by better media coverage?
Your thoughts please.
I'm enjoying A Great and Terrible Beauty, but some of the language....would a Victorian headmistress have referred to someone as "your new room-mate"? Or on joining the school, say (admittedly with a touch of sarcasm) that she was joining "the Spence family" (Spence is the name ...

A Biography of Cancer

I am thoroughly enjoying THE EMPEROR OF ALL MALADIES (Siddhartha Mukherjee), a historical biography about cancer and the various treatments tried throughout the ages. The disease is personified as an ancient enemy, and is so well written it reads almost like a historical fiction. I highly recommend ...

The Painted Ladies - Buchanan

I rarely recommend a book on this site, but if you are looking for a great read about the relationship between the French artist Degas and his ballet muses I thoroughly enjoyed Cathy Marie Buchanan's THE PAINTED GIRLS. It is highly original. well written, excellently researched, and touches on the d...
