Thanks for the Welcome

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm still getting the knack of how to work the posting and the replying and the edits and the previews... But it is great to be part this international community. [QUOTE=LoveHistory;68988]Hi Richard. Any chance you're descended from Richard Warren of Mayflower fame? I am a DIRECT descendant of Richard Warren (I am related to three of those Mayflower folks). But, I am not named after him. My parents liked the name Richard (so do I), and my paternal grandfather...

Richard Warren Field - Belated Introduction

I've been posting here for about a month, mainly about "The Pillars of the Earth" mini-series - I found this group while searching for discussions about it. But this looks like a great group... and I figured I ought to check in. I'm Richard Warren Field from Southern California. My novel about the T...

September 3, 1260

I just saw this thread today, so I'm two days late. But 750 years ago - and two days - one of the most neglected important battles in history took place: The Battle of Ayn Jalut. What I'm Reading

Wolf Hall Thought I would se what all the fuss was about. I'm about 20 pages in. I'm wondering if there was a reason for telling the story in the present tense... Pillars of the Earth Comments

Starz broadcast the series in six parts - a two hour opening, and a two hour closing, with four one hour episodes in between (adding up to eight hours total). I'm glad I didn't give away anything in my last post! Richard Warren Field http://www.richardwarrenfield.com/ http://www.richardwarrenfield.c...

The Pillars of The Earth

I saw the last episode last night. I thought they did a pretty good job telling this story, in some cases improving it by capitalizing on the advantages of a visual medium. But, I also felt they were constrained by limitations of time from offering some of the best parts of the story, and the villai...

Pillars of the Earth Comments

I think they needed to find a good place between those who would find the cathedral construction fascinating (as Follette definitely does in his book) and those who would be bored. And I'm okay with the ba...
