That's exactly the one, The Ground is Burning. Thank you so much MLE, you're a star! I was asking the shop assistants and they had no idea what I was talking about. Thanks again!

I know it's a long shot due to lack of de...

[quote=""sweetpotatoboy""]The adaptation screens next month. Michel Faber wrote an essay in last Saturday's Times that was critical of historical novels, saying his wasn't one etc. (His first two sentences are: "I don't read historical novels. They irritate me....) However, he did have some interest...

[quote=""Madeleine""]Season 4 has almost finished here, about 3 to go. I think it's the weakest series so far, although it also manages to be the funniest, especially when Henry goes all Oirish - no offence to the Irish, but it just sounds completely out of place, especially as he wasn't like that i...

[quote=""BrianPK""]Read Nigel Tranter's thoroughly enjoyable "The Wisest Fool". Actually do yourself a favour and start with The "Master of Gray" trilogy which tells of the final days of Elizabeth 1's reign and the scheming to get James on the throne...outstanding read. Then follow up with "The Wise...

[quote=""Madeleine""]The Ceremony was good - our Beefeater was very entertaining and played up the ghost story angle and I'm sure had a few of the small children in our group shivering a bit. What was really creepy was hearing the story of the Princes in the Tower (very abridged version!) and their ...

Just started Heresy by SJ Parris. It's meant to be a bit like the Shardlake novels but this time set in Elizabethan times with Giordano Bruno as the hero. It's good so far :)
