For a particularly visceral look at the term, there's the Sean Connery film, The Hill, where he's on punishment detail, lugging things up and down a hill. In the desert (North Africa, I think), and it's brutally hot.

Several films lately -- The ending of Downton Abbey (sob!), Love's Kitchen -- a very bad foodie film, and 1911, a Chinese film about the 1911 Xianbei Rebellion that toppled the Qing dynasty.

Not HF today, but it's one that I've been looking forward to all year -- Captain Vorpatril's Alliance by Lois McMaster Bujold. About three-quarters of the way through, and having a grand time with it.
