Re: What are you reading July 2018?

Welcome Maria! Its not historic fiction, but hisoric in the mythology sense: Circe by Madeliene Miller. A very interesting take on the Odessey story, and perhaps my fav book of the year so far Previously read Eliz Chadwick Silk of Templar and honestly it left me cold. Anyone else have problems with ...

Re: Game of Thrones 2016

Wow didn't drag for me at all. Amazing finale. Cersei's act was telegraphed throughout the series with mentions of wildfire by various characters, so that didn't surprise me, but the number of characters that ended up gone did! And ah poor Tommen - an innocent surrounded by conniving manipulative pe...

Re: What Movies Have You Seen Lately?

wow, where is everyone? Well - you all must see Love and Friendship, an adaptation of a very early Austen called Lady Susan. Beautifully filmed, hilarious story, great acting and did I say hilarious? Weve seen it twice well worth going to see!

Re: Game of Thrones 2016

really interested about the whole arya reveal. I predict that its Jacquen or another character who Waif kills. Jacquen then realizes that the Waif is not 'no one' and takes her face, gives it to arya, who jumps on a ship to Westeros. She lands in the Riverlands not far from where she left the Hound,...

Re: disagreeable protagonists

Dont mind disagreeable characters, or even evil minded ones - if they are written with some complexity, with several shades of gray, and a mean sense of humor, Im there. Olive Kitteridge is a good example.

Alan Rickman

Surprised to see no mention here of his death. So talented, and so young! Saw him long before Potter: first in Quigley Down Under (first date with future husband!) Then Truly Madly Deeply, Die Hard, Sense and Sensibility, Galaxy Quest, Dogma.....then the Potter films. Didn't realize that he did the ...

Re: Am I the only one...?

I'm with Lisa on this - I like to read historical notes and see if the author points out what/who is real, and what/who isn't real ie have they put a fictitious character into real events, or amalgamated some characters into one person etc., or if they've just put their own interpretation on a part...

Re: Book Shopping 2015

Madelene, is that your first Von Armin? Loved that book (discovered it after seeing the movie) and realized she had a slew of other books that are just wonderful. Mr Skeffington is also good, and also made into a movie (which I didn't see) All of her work is semi-autobiographical, but the are all di...

Re: What are you reading August 2015

I absolutely loved Far Pavillions, its still one of my favorite lifetime book. I tried Shadows of the Moon a few times, and it just didn't take. Starting The Tyrant's Daughter by J.C. Carleson, a fictional account of a tyrant brought down (looks similar to the Shar in Iran) and how the family surviv...
