Re: What are you reading February 2017?

I am reading The Golden Lynx by C.P. Lesley. I can't think of another book I have read set in 1530's Russia, even though Ivan IV (the terrible) makes for a fascinating time. Okay, the 5th Lymond book was partly there, so that's 1. Anyone know of others? There's a chapter in Edward Rutherford's Russ...

Re: Victoria (US broadcast January 2017)

I wasn't able to stomach the first episode, so I haven't been watching. I much preferred Young Victoria.

Re: Boardwalk Empire (HBO) story and History/any thoughts?

The original book is a work of non-fiction about the RL Nucky Johnson. The Boardwalk Empire series kept a lot of the real Nucky's details such as his penchant for wearing a carnation in his buttonhole and his first marriage, but changed a lot of the rest. Nucky Thompson on the show is more of a move...

I don't think I've seen that particular cover. It is getting difficult to remember though!

I loved those scenes, too. Claire's red gown bothered me, though. Not because of the color, but because the neckline was so vulgar.

Re: Happy new year! What are you reading in January 2016?

Justinian's Flea , about the 542 bubonic plague pandemic. How is that Laura? I bought that at the Getty Museum shop last year & it's sitting on my nightstand. Parts of it are very good, and other parts just drag on. It started well, then went downhill. The author goes off on tangents about the buil...

Re: What are you reading December 2015?

So far: The Conqueror's Wife by Stephanie Thornton A Thousand Nights Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond Horses, the Whe...
