Troy - Lord of the Silver Bow - David Gemmell
I began this book, the first of the Troy trilogy, after reading a recommendation of it here. I was a bit skeptical. I love the Trojan War mythology and all, but truthfully... the number one drawback to historical fiction, in my mind, is that it often isn't very exciting, as I already know going in w...

Good article. I've had "write a novel" on my bucket list since I was 12, and never done it. It would be nice if someone actually read it when I was finished, but that is not strictly necessary. I never get around to starting though. I've changed subjects 47 times, and have random research all over t...

I just picked up Hannibal by the aforementioned author, and am blown away. What a great military history! Dodge fought in the Union army after having studied at a Prussian military school. He wrote multivolume works on the "great generals" (Alexander, Hannibal, Caesar, Gustavus Adolphus, Napoleon). ...

I just went to a library sale from the site you posted... OMG! $5.00 a bag (large paper shopping bag) for as many books as you can cram in there! I cleaned out the ancient history shelf. Got me some Caesar, Plutarch, Tacitus, Plato... ended up with about 25 books for $5. I will be a regular at area ...
Perhaps I am more sensitive to the name pun because of the number of ways my maiden name was used and abused against me. I gleefully took my husbands name when we married. Lots less opportunities for punsters to do their work.
I used to work in a large office building. One day...
Judith Weingarten wrote a fairly comprehensive biographical novel about Zenobia a few years back, called The Chronicle of Zenobia: the Rebel Queen . Carla reviewed it here . Judith Weingarten also wrote an interesting post about Queen Z for the Roman History Books and More website.[...

Zenobia, Queen of Palmyra
I think that would be a great one. It has everything, a little romance, a lot of fighting. I would love to read a novel on her.
Lol. A few years ago I was in Vancouver BC and was doing the Robson Street thing, Robson Street being Canada's equivalent of Rodeo Drive. All those shoe, dress, chocolate and fur (!!!) shops and where did I spend all my time and money? The three story Chapters book store. I was in ...
