Under an English Heaven by Robert Radcliffe. This started a little slow and I considered laying it aside, but checked my notes to see why I had ordered it. It had been mentioned and recommended by Elizabeth Chadwick on the WWII thread, so I decided to stay with it. So glad I did - I loved it! Setti...

A year or so ago I read Helen Hollick's novel Harold the King , about King Harold, and today I finished Parke Godwin's novel about him entitled Lord of Sunset . I loved both novels, I love and admire Harold. I'm wondering how history students in England, and the 'common man' feel toward Harold. Is h...

At the moment I am reading The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver. Somewhat different to The Poisonwood Bible and reminds me a lot of Fannie Flagg.[/quote]
I really enjoyed The Bean Trees, and the sequel, Pigs in Heaven.
Plan to read Poisonwood Bible sometime this summer.

Like you, I have enjoyed the Bernard Cornwall books. Another Dark Ages triligy that I would recommend is by Joan Wolf - Road to Avalon (King Arthur) - Born of the Sun (King Ceawlin) - The Edge of Light (Alfred the Great) Helen Hollick has also written a King Arthur trilogy. So far I have read and re...

I just finished Myself as Witness , a "chronicle" of the last four years of the life and reign of King John, by James Goldman who wrote the screenplay Lion in Winter. It was interesting and I was able to overlook a few inaccuracies such as William Marshal's age, William Longsword's mother, etc. But,...
