Thank you all for the good wishes. I did happen to treat myself to a few new books! I got Beyond all Frontiers and Scarlet Shadows by Emma Drummond. Found them both for a penny plus shipping.

Just started The Gentleman Poet by Kathryn Johnson. The beginning starts with a very vivid description of experiencing a hurricane on a sailing ship in 1611. Made me seasick just reading about it - a very promising start.

This was a wonderful book. The author made you really feel like you were in those horrrible conditions in the hospitals. It opened my eyes as to what those poor injured soldiers had to go through. No wonder so many of them died.
