As long as we're doing name-changes, how about the Jacobites? I wondered for years where THAT name came from, until one day wiki updated the page to explain the 'Jacob' is the Latin form of 'James'.
The evolution of Jacob into James is as convoluted as the old game of "gossip...
We were taught in school that 'Teddy' dates to Theodore Rosevelt (sp). I'm currently putting up a daily medieval male and female name at my Facebook page and Twitter account. I'm taking them from the Curia Regis rolls of 1211-1212 and doing them alphabetically. Today was P and I was a...

The first two were definitely the best. #4 is better than #3, but still not as good as #1 or #2. I think that is why my interest in the series fizzled out.

Just finished The Ivy Tree. A nice little entertaining, escape read. For those of you who like Mary Stewart's romantic/suspense books, I recommend it.
I'm working my way through Queen by Right and one character is described as having purple eyes. Really? I know Elizabeth Taylor was lauded for her violet colored eyes (I never could tell in the movies), but purple is such a weird color.
It is my (cynical) opinion that E...
My Mom said she was taught in school that brown eyes are dominant. Well she had six kids and only one of them has her brown eyes. I wonder if there are cycles on these things, or if there was a misprint in the textbook, or if someone was just plain wrong.
No, they were...
