Re: What Are You Reading? August 2021

Just started The Winds of War, an oldie by Herman Wouk. A good 45 hours on Audible! Many years ago I watched the miniseries & I still picture Robert Mitchum as Pug. I watched the TV series years ago and it inspired me to read the books. Went back and watched again a while ago when it was on YouTube.

Re: Sanditon

I begin to wonder if UK TV channels will continue to do these deals with Masterpiece Theatre by which Masterpiece cough up a percentage of the production costs to get exclusive distribution rights in the US. It now seems that most UK content which will eventually also include that from Channel 4 wil...

Re: What Are You Reading October 2019?

I have several Shetland novels to read but am yet to start. I enjoyed the TV show but with regards to the books, I saw a review (not that I really pay any attention to reviews from people I don't know personally) saying the Vera books are better. I hate the Vera TV show and I know that TV and the bo...

Re: Magna Carta at Reagan Library

I'm not sure I would refer to them as copies. There is no such thing as a single 'original'. No-one is sure how many were produced in 1215 but they were created from a sort of 'heads of terms' by numerous scribes The British Library holds two but one was badly burnt at the end of the 19th century, a...

Re: Mary, Queen of Scots movie

With this and The Favourite, not to mention Helen Mirren as Catherine the Great (on TV), hopefully we will have some quality acting in store (for a change) but anything with Olivia Coleman in immediately sparks my interest. She might even persuade me to give The Crown a go, although probably not.

Re: Les Miserables TV series

Has had good reviews here, but much relief at the absence of songs.

Re: New "Rebecca" adaptation

There was also Don't Look Now (I think that is what it was called) with Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie which was pretty well received over here.

Re: What audiobooks are you listening to? New Lymond Chronicles

The new audio Lymond Chronicles are either already available or will be available during November. Many people hated the original narrators of these novels. I didn't, but I did hate the narration of the Niccolo books (much of which reminded me of Janet from Dr Finlay's Casebook back in the day. Noth...
