It hit me tonight as I was watching The Great King Sejong on the telly tonight (up to episode 16, but alas, it only shows on the weekends) how much it resembles the whole Eleanor/Henry II and their sons in some respects. Much more complicated, and based on actual history to boot.
King of Korea has a wife who's politically meddling, four legitimate sons -- eldest is a hotheaded braggart with an itch for war, second son is a pacifist without a political bone in his head, third son is the brains of the outfit, with a quickly growing sense of politics, and the youngest is too young to be much trouble yet. Then there's the former king, current king's brother, who has a concubine with the hots for the eldest son, along with a host of other complications -- including an illegitimate son with a mother who wants power very badly. Great fun to watch, night battles, lots and lots of gorgeous costumes, and a very different mindset. These folks are excruciatingly polite while verbally ripping each other to shreds.

New in Town with Renee Zellweger and Harry Connick, Jr.
Pretty funny in spots. Siobhan Fallon Hogan and J.K. Simmons were incredibly good. Anyone who lives in a northern climate can appreciate it. Also people who live in small towns where most of the residents are of nordic descent. My Mom and one of my sisters described it as hilarious. I wouldn't go that far, but maybe it gets better with subsequent watchings. I'm going to try it again before I send it back.

Also watched HP, liked it quite a bit. My DH, who has read all the books, said it was the best yet in terms of keeping true to the book and not leaving things out. I loved this little shadow puppet sequence they did when Hermonie is reading a fairy tale. A little animation that really added to the film; wish they'd do more scenes like that.

Over the weekend watched Prince of Persia with the kids, then hubby and I watched the first four episodes of Spartacus Blood & Sand. Enjoyed it, can't wait to mail current batch of netflix movies back so I can get more episodes.

Weekend of opposites. Friday saw Tiny Furniture by a very young, up and coming director with my husband. Saturday saw Harry Potter with my daughter. Liked both for very different reasons. Went to see The Kings Speech on Sunday, but they were sold out! Came home and did the NYT Sunday crossword puzzle instead.
