Question Quick Question: Book about British Royalty

A student has asked me to recommend a book on British royals - something basic that will take her quickly up to speed on who did what when, that she can use as a reference guide. I'm going to take a look online to see what's available but wondered if anyone had any recommendations? It's a book she is looking for rather than a website.

Thanks so much

How about Kings, Queens, Bones and Bastards?

I have a well-worn book of Brewer's British Royalty. It is my Bible on British royalty. I think it's out of print, but it is available on Amazon UK.

Also good and very comprehensive is The Mammoth Book of British Kings and Queens by Mike Ashley. It covers more than just English/British monarchs. Mike Ashley also had a shorter version of his book called A Brief History of British Kings and Queens.

I haven't read them but these seem to be Amazon's bestselling comprehensive reference guides to British/English royals:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Britains-Roy...747904&sr=1-32

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Crown-Countr...747904&sr=1-35

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kings-Queens...748268&sr=1-85

The Weir one looks like it includes more than just the monarchs so it might be more than what your student is looking for.

Thanks so much everyone for replying so helpfully and promptly. It's a short course so I'm glad to be able to get back to her quickly. I like the look of the Brief History in particular - might order that for myself.
