I went to B&N today armed with a gift card and walked away with Joy in the Morning, by Betty Smith. I went in there looking for a copy of Age of Innocence; found absolutely NO copies of ANYTHING by Edith Wharton but 500 copies of a book called Diary of a Mad Bride...

Is that in the U.S yet/ever? Do you have a personal challenge going?

I'm not what you mean by the first question, I ordered used through Amazon US. Yes, I am challenging myself to read a nonfiction book about every reigning king and queen of England. It may take a few years though!

3 for 2 at Waterstones and have already used Amazon Xmas vouchers filling in the gaps in the Oxford History of England series (the old one), so today I picked up:

The Master of Bruges - Terence Morgan
The Brothers Boswell - Philip Baruth
The Harlot's Press - Helen Pike

Also: 1001 Children's Books you must read before you grow up. Not really for me but it is reminding me oi some I had forgotten reading (some interesting omissions) -- good thing it was half-price though.

And last, but not least, Paddington - My Book of Marmalade (also not for me).

I got an email that my copy of "St Paul's: The Cathedral Church of London, 604-2004 (Studies in British Art)", the book that most used copies are 50 and over, has shipped, now I just have to hope it's the right book (I've had that happened where I got the wrong book with the same title :P ).

Used and not cheap (gulp) Medical Canon by Avicenna. I've been wanting one for a while--it was the medical text used at all the great universities (Padua, Bologna, Paris) from AD 1000 to 1800.

I tried looking for it on amazon.com/us but it didn't come up. I searched by title and by author. I'll try again.

That is a great challenge. Mine is similar-read a book (fiction or nonfiction) about every King/Queen from King Arthur to Queen Elizabeth II.

I try to stick to buy max 3 books per week so I'm not starting very well

Songs of Love and Death - Short stories collection
Men of Bronze by Scott Oden
Another book in the Bosh series by Michael Connelly, I'm enjoying these.
First 3 books in the Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters
