Default Elizabeth Chadwick?

This author has a new book out To Defy a King, and when I checked the history, I found that many of the characters were real people. I like the historical fiction that is based on fact.
I want to know what various members think of her writing, if they don't mind.
Philippa Gregory's is on its way to me as I speak. I'm so excited!!

Berengaria, Elizabeth frequently posts here as EC2, and many members including me are among her greatest fans! You'll find lots of opinion about her work by exploring the board or doing a search, but I'll also give you a link to my reviews of To Defy a King and her previous book, The Time of Singing (to be republished in the US as For the King's Favor).

I am a huge fan of EC, and have been for several years. Her older books do not have real historical people in them like the newer ones, but still very good. She has a wonderful way of bringing you right into the period - and very effortlessly without banging you over the head with the smaller details.

Elizabeth Chadwick is meticulous with the quality of her historical research. If you're familiar with the novels of Sharon Kay Penman, you'll find Chadwick's later novels to be quite similar in their comprehensiveness and attention to period detail. I've reviewed her two William Marshal novels, The Greatest Knight (see review) and The Scarlet Lion (see review).

I'm another fan. I find her books very engrossing, I just feel I'm right there with the characters.

Me too, I'm currently working my way through her Marshal books, and recently read The Scarlet Lion.

I very much agree! In fact, last summer when I saw Sharon Kay Penman at a book talk, she praised and recommended Elizabeth Chadwick's books.

Elizabeth Chadwick's books are wonderful reads, especially her later ones that take on the stories of real people who did live in the period. The research is spot on, the intensity real, and the stories really stay with you -- I will never forget the story of John Marshal in that church tower!

Yes, I can recommend Elizabeth Chadwick's books. They are meticulously researched and the ones about the Marshall family are especially interesting as they record the history of real people and bring the characters to life in a vivid story line.
