Karen is playing on the beach when she finds an ancient mirror buried in the sand. She looks into it, and is transported back in time to the Roman empire. Finding herself a slave, she faces many hair-raising adventures in her struggle to return to her own time.
This Long-lost work of young adult Roman fantasy/ historical fiction, first published in 1966 and since out of print, has been reprinted in a new paperback edition with BRAND-NEW illustrations by Philip Smiley. |

I've heard of this one, Cuchulain, though I've never come across a copy. It's so good to see some of these excellent older YA novels being reprinted. I'm delighted to see some of Rosemary Sutcliff's novels back in print after many years in the wilderness.

I have quite vivid memories of this book, though I only read it once, from the school library. I remember being deeply envious of the author, who was only 14 when she wrote it - I wonder if she ever went on to do anything else?

Eigon, you've probably found this link - a guest post on a blog in which she says she hasn't written anything since The Green Bronze Mirror.http://historical-fiction.com/?p=816
