These photographs of Tower Bridge being constructed have been unveiled after a stash of hundred-year-old photos were found in a skip. The 50 sepia pictures, the most recent of which date back to 1892, reveal in incredible detail the ingenuity behind one of the capital's most popular tourist destinations.

Way cool pics (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/property/propertypicturegalleries/8923147/Photographs-of-Tower-Bridge-being-constructed-are-found-in-a-skip.html)

Great photos! But could someone enlighten me as to just what a 'skip' is?

It's a large metal container for receiving household rubbish, (usually from renovation works). They are delivered and removed from one's house by specially built trucks.

Hmm - tourist destination? Yes, it is very much a part of the London (or rather, Thames) skyline but you get a better view from further away. You actually get a really good view of it from the London Eye. That particular description sounds pretty much like a piece of tourist spin written by someone who hasn't been there. Perhaps he/she really means the Tower of London.

However, when I was a very young child and it opened with rather more frequency than today, it caused some really spectacular traffic jams. But in those days London was still a rather busy port which sadly it no longer is.
