Sigh, I knew it was bound to happen sooner then later, I've heard he'd been very sick of late.
Another legend gone :( He was 83.

And he had one Hollywood marriage that actually lasted "Til death do us part" with Joanne Woodward, poor woman to have lost her husband after so many years :(

I just heard about this on the radio. God bless him, he was a true philanthropist and genuinely cared about others., and a gentleman through and through. He's going to be missed in this world.

I think the present gang of young actors and actresses could take a lesson or two here. They probably won't tho.
Loved him in Sundance Kid, The Sting, Cool Hand Luke, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (my sis played the mom in the stage play in our community theatre, and said that she always imagined Newman playing along side of her ). I didn't care for his more recent works that much: Road to Perdition and The Verdict were the two standouts for me. Yes, one of the great ones. He'll be missed
I loved him as the cranky drunk old father in Message in a Bottle.
Plus all of the classics mentioned above, of course.
Sad. One of the best. Good looking, good actor, good man.

I love Paul Newman, it's very sad news, but he was married before Joanne Woodward. I believe he has 2 daughters from the first marriage. He was one of the Hollywood greats.

He was one of the great ones - Cool Hand Luke, Butch Cassidy, Fast Eddie and on and on. And he was a nice person and extremely generous. Newman and his family definitely cared about people.
He spent an afternoon in McClellanville SC scouting locations for Message in a Bottle almost ten years ago at the time a very close friend of mine had a silk screen T-shirt business. He ate at a restaurant next door and then came over and shot a quick bit of pool on the table in her building. She said he had a ball cap and sunglasses on most of the time, but did dip the glasses down so she could get a look at those marvelous blue eyes of his while she was talking to him.
Wow. Wish I'd been there at the time! I did come by later and she showed me a spot where he leaned on the pool table. I had to touch that spot! Anyway, he was such a cool guy and left a unique legacy behind.

I know, but the fact that he and Joanne stayed married for 50 years is nothing to sneeze at.

I read about this in the "Washington Post" online yesterday. Another great actor gone. :(
Newman was the Stage Manager in the play "Our Town" (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/americancollection/ourtown/index.html) during PBS's "Masterpiece Theater: American Collection" 2003-04 season. It was his first Broadway production in 38 years. I think this may have been among the last of his acting roles.
