Hi all

New here so please bear with me

I was wondering if anyone knew of any writing competitions for historical fiction. It would be good if they were free to enter in the first instance, as though I am not a cheapskate, I am often a bit sceptical about whether the hundreds of paid ones are just money grabbing. Not after prizes but a chance of recognition would be good.

Message to moderators, Am I allowed to put a link in these posts? (Wouldnt want to start off an the wrong foot)

best regards

Kevin

You can add a signature link, if that's what you mean.

I'm not aware of any writing competitions specifically for historical fiction. In general, writing competitions do charge fees, because they are usually intended to raise some money for the organization sponsoring the competition. Also, the prize money for the winner(s) comes out of the entry fees. Poets & Writers magazine is a good source for finding out about writing competitions. They have lists at the back of every issue, and I'm not sure, but one issue a year may be devoted to these, or at least include a larger list.
