Great post, Gordon. I'm just reading CC Humphreys' A Place called Armageddon at the moment (very good, you'll like it :)) and I'm jealous that you've got to see the Theodosian walls for yourself, though maybe not so jealous that you got to climb them- I have a thing about heights!

I've got 'A Place Called Armageddon' on my to read list. It looks right up my street with intense seige warfare and an Empire on the cusp of obliteration!

If you get the chance to go to Istanbul you'll love it, it's thriving, jam-packed with history and I found it even knocked Rome off its perch as a historical city.
