I saw a novel in Waterstones about a month ago which looked really good but I've forgotten what it was called and who wrote it.
It was set in Renaissance Italy and was narrated by Machiavelli, Da Vinci and (I think) someone from the Borgia family.
I know it's a long shot due to lack of detail but has anyone heard of this book? Any ideas or clues much appreciated.

perhaps you saw Paul Strathern's the Artist, the Philosopher, and the Warrior (http://www.amazon.com/Artist-Philosopher-Warrior-Intersecting-Machiavelli/dp/0553807528/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1312758915&sr=1-1)? If isn't a novel, but a triple biography. It caught my eye too, so I put it on my wish list.

Just checked for novels and it's likely the Ground is Burning (http://www.amazon.com/Ground-Burning-Samuel-Black/dp/0571269400) by Samuel Black. Not available on this side of the pond, as you can see from the Amazon link.

That's exactly the one, The Ground is Burning. Thank you so much MLE, you're a star! I was asking the shop assistants and they had no idea what I was talking about. Thanks again!
