Greetings, all ~
Thank you for admitting me to this forum. I live in Salem, the capital city of Oregon; my husband is an archaeologist/historical presevation specialist with FEMA and also self-employed as an armourer/blacksmith/gunsmith; we both majored in history and he has a master's in archaeology. We are both bibliophiles and read a great deal of historical fiction, historical fantasy, speculative fiction and pure history.
My avocation is to be an historical fiction writer (imagine that!). I have no one specific area of focus, but I gravitate mostly towards European history-based fiction. I also really enjoy works about the ancient world.
I have several projects in progress, the details of which I will not bore you all with. Economic necessity means that right now I'm looking for work in the technical writing/editing or project management worlds.
I enjoy reading, our historical recreation groups, cultural events, my cats, travel, movies, dining out, theme conventions (steampunk, sci-fi, Harry Potter, dance) and lots more stuff.
I look forward to being a part of this community. ;)

Yes, I spotted one such as I signed on. I was just up in Portland last night for a wedding reception, and I often work up there. Left to my own devices, my focus is more to the south and west of where I live. ;)

Jeanne, I spent a lovely vacation this summer driving down your state's coast. I am very jealous that you get to do that any time you want! Welcome!
Welcome, Jeanne. does your husband ever ply his trade at renaissance faires?

Ha ha! I love the Oregon Coast. I get out there whenever we are able. It puts me in the mood to write. There are even bits of history to be had. :-) Not my era, but interesting always. I love Astoria, Gold Beach and Bandon - one of my other interests is big cats and I spend a lot of time at the West Coast Game Park.

Not any more, no. He sets up as a merchant occasionally at SCA events, and has a website through which he does mail order for other groups and eras - such as English Civil War. A gun he collaborated on, the Knox volley gun, appears briefly in "Master and Commander" (when they board the 'Acheron').

Hi Jeanne. Welcome to the group. I'm in the SCA, local group Chatelaine and Packrat O' Doom (which means archivist/librarian). I hope you have ample bookshelf room as you'll be getting a ton of recommendations on here. :D

I love them, too! I love rocky beaches. And the tide pools are the bomb.

Oh, I already have overfilled bookshelves; and we make regular trips to the library. I've been in the SCA for 35 years last July.
