There is a movie coming out about Ernie Davis (football player) and a statue was put up in his honor on the SU campus. However, it seems that the sculpture isnt historically accurate
Syracuse, New York (WSYR-TV) - Nike swooshes have been found on the new Ernie Davis statue up on the Syracuse University quad. What’s wrong with that, you ask? Nike didn’t exist when Ernie Davis played football.A blogger first pointed out the mistake. Online columnist Matt Gelb also wrote Wednesday that the helmet on the Davis statue is inaccurate.
University spokesperson Kevin Morrow sent us the following statement about the error: "The sculptor, Bruno Lucchesi, realized there was an era-specific discrepancy with the shoes and the helmet. But when this was discovered there was not sufficient time to take corrective action before this past weekend's activities. Bruno will be making the appropriate modifications as soon as possible. The public reaction to the statue and to all of the activities associated with "The Express" have been overwhelmingly positive."
Syracuse University Athletic Director Daryl Gross told SportingNews.com today that the Nike swooshes are an “easy fix.”
“The sculptor is on it and will make it perfect,” Gross told SportingNews.com in an email.
