Thought I would start this thread again. I usually only read at night when everybody is in bed, including myself, then I get to escape! I usually only get to read for about an hour at a time. I'm hoping when we move into our new house (still in final stages of construction) I will get more time!

I read in my bed in the afternoon and when I turn the TV off at night. I also always have a book with me when I leave the house as I sometimes have to wait awhile for rides.
Sometimes I'll read during commercials of TV shows when I really need to get something finished.

I usually cart around books with me to my appointments too. There are always waiting times! My kids start piano lessons on monday, and I have to wait an hour in town for them to finish, so I get another precious hour to read!:D

I have 3 hours of commuting time each week day so that is where the vast majority of reading is done. Other than that I always have a book in my bag, for waiting for appointments etc.
At night I tend to read for about half an hour.
Generally I have different books for reading on the train and then for reading in bed.

I read whenever I can. Like diamondlil I bring my books to appointments and am usually th eonly one reading :D I read it bed or on the sofa. Sometimes on cold winter/fall days I read in the ktichen if the sun is shinning because I have a bench in front of 8 windows and it helps to warm me.

I usually read while watching TV - but I can't read in bed for some reason.
Where I read depends on the season. When everyone else is snowbound, and the weather here is gorgeous, I can be found on my porch swing in our lovely yard, reading with four cats vying for position on the swing. When everyone else is enjoying the outdoors, its 100+ here, so I am in our enclosed patio, filled with plants and such, and an air conditioner. Thats my home for most of the summer.
I also bring books with me for appointments and I often have one with me when I know I am going to be waiting in line. Otherwise during the school year I read on the weekends, and some evenings if I'm not too wiped out, and during the summer I read constantly.

In my work, I have had the opportunity to talk about reading with a number of people, and a surprising number have mentioned the 'reading before going to bed' pattern. I hear a lot of comments on how this helps prepare them better for a good night of sleep. I haven't got there myself. Hopefully one day. But as for me, I read wherever and whenever I can, carrying two or three of my books with me at all times. You never know when you're going to be stuck somewhere that calls for a good book to help pass the time.
I read at night in bed or when I am having my morning coffee at Gloria Jeans coffee shop! I also have my book with me if I know I will have an appointment.

Usually in bed at night. I find it difficult to concentrate anywhere else so I just tend to read at home in bed before I go to sleep ... plus, I can't read in a car or on a bus or anything.

After I get home from work and have completed any absolutely necessary housework that can't be put off until the next day, I curl up in an oversized armchair with ottoman and read for the entire evening there. Sometimes I have a cable news show in the background or else I have an XM satellite station on. I rarely read in silence.
Right now it's a lovely cool Sunday morning and as soon as I sign off, I'll pick up my book and continue reading where I am in a wrought iron chair on my deck, sipping coffee and listening to birds chirp and to insects making strange pulsating sounds. The Blue Ridge mountain range is slightly hazy across the valley and I suspect it will be another hot afternoon.

At the moment, I tend to have two books on the go. One is for reading in bed, or if the boys give me a chance during the day. The other is in Joel's room for when I am breastfeeding him. He is very interested in books though and he likes to hit reach out and touch and stratch at them, and if he isn't hungery or tired enough, he will want to sit up and have a look at the book. So I have to feed him for a bit and then pick the right moment for when it is safe to pick up a book.
Before the boys, I would pretty much take a book with me anywhere. I took one to work everyday, to read in the lunch break, if I took one, or sometimes we had to go out to other places for things and you could be waiting around a bit so it always paid to take a book.

Anytime, anywhere, anyplace!:D Whilst eating my breakfast and lunch and usually in the evenings and in bed. I take my book out and about with me just in case I have an opportunity to read. If a book is particularly engrossing, I have been known to read whilst cooking and walking the dogs!

I read whenever I can. Not married and no kids outside of Misfit the kittycat so most of my free time is devoted to reading (or reading this board :p). After work and on weekends I'm firmly planted on my favorite sofa with book in hand, I rarely watch much TV outside of the news. In bed, usually only when I'm having trouble sleeping and then I'll pick up a book hoping I'll be ready to nod off soon, although it's usually the opposite and I'm stuck in the book until it's time to head off to work. I also read whilst doing cardio now that I've found the flipklip (http://www.amazon.com/FlipKlip-Treadmill-Book-Holder-1-Pak/dp/B000GW64HA/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1220796674&sr=8-1) to keep the book open. Having the book there makes the cardio go so much faster :):)
>I can't read in a car or on a bus or anything.
Thats just like my husband. So when we go on trips, he drives, and I read. Heaven for me anyway! (he actually doesn't mind driving which is a good thing)
Funny how many people read in bed. When I try, I fall asleep. Much better for me in a rocking chair or recliner, or swing

I can read on an airplane, but not on a car or bus. I get sick. :(

My book reading is largely done while commuting (about 40 minutes each way) and while eating my lunch at work.
My reading time at home (in bed, in the bath and while, em, sitting) is largely for newspapers etc.
PS. I also get sick reading on the bus and in the car. I'm OK on the train and the plane, though.

I deliberately choose not to read at lunchtime because if I get caught up in the book, two hours will pass before I realise!

I eat lunch at my desk most of the work week and learned years ago to not bring a good book to work to read for lunch hour. I'll slip it into the center drawer of my desk and continue to surreptitiously read it on and off all afternoon instead of concentrating on work. Then I feel SO guilty. Therefore, I will not bring a book to work anymore because I have absolutely no willpower ro resist a good story.

I read anywhere.
Work, home, bed, easychair, car (not while driving ;) ), restaurant, in front of TV if my wife is watching something I don't like, outside in the evening...
Pretty much anywhere.

I feel guilty enough that I check my emails, check here and also on some blogs at lunchtime, let alone actually reading a book!
Grasshopper, I've been known to read at the traffic lights and in traffic jams before.
I can't read books at work either, not because I will be distracted, but I barely have time for lunch! By the time I clean up after the morning class and get stuff set up for the afternoon, my half hour is 10 minutes and I'm off to the busses to get the next load. But seeing how deep I get into my reading, its probably a good thing I can't. Last week I was one of the evaluators for 'child find" (screening for preschoolers who might have a developmental delay) I usually bring a book with me because often theres some down time. Well, I was reading Guersney Literary Society, and came to a point that sort of snuck up on me (about the fate of Eliz) and it took my boss a few nudges to tell me I had another eval. He smiled, because he knows. But it took me a minute to shake the scene from my head, before I said hello to the next preschooler.

LOL!! That's hilarious!
Here in OKC, we don't get bad traffic to speak of, so I've never had that experience. Once or twice I've read a 10-second snippet while waiting at a traffic light, but that has only happened when I had to drive about the time that the book was intense.
If I'm working at a slow pharmacy, there's plenty of time to read. And I take my book with me no matter where I'm working.

Usually I read in bed. Other times, in the Metro parking lot if I arrive early or on the Metro going home.
I read at night in bed or when I am having my morning coffee at Gloria Jeans coffee shop! I also have my book with me if I know I will have an appointment.
And yesterday I got caught by a friend! Coffee in one hand, book in the other totally engrossed! Looked up and there she stood! Had a chuckle!
