Just saw this (http://news.scotsman.com/edinburgh/Crime-scene-where-Mary-Queen.6473103.jp?articlepage=1) fascinating article about an excavation at the scene of the murder of Mary Queen of Scots' husband, Lord Darnley, was murdered.

Interesting. I'm currently reading Elizabeth the Great by Elizabeth Jenkins, and I find myself wondering how much of the information she gives as evidence of Mary Stuart's involvement in things should be believed.

A very interesting article!

The person writing the caption to the picture, however, can't possibly mean to say "Archaeologists are hoping to find remains of Lord Darnley, Mary Queen of Scots' second husband." Darnley certainly wasn't buried anywhere near Kirk o' Field, but in the chapel royal at Holyrood.

Or is "remains" used differently in the UK?

Nope, "remains" means the same ie mortal remains; unless they mean some sort of other traces of him, such as possessions.

I agree - I think the caption writer has just put 2 and 2 together and made 5, which often happens.
I think the article is saying they hope to find the remains of the crime scene and possible clues. There is no mention of Darnley's remains themselves possibly being there.

That's because his remains aren't supposed to be there. Darnley and a man in his employ (can't remember the guy's position) escaped the blast and were found nearby, strangled to death.
