EC lost one of her pets this morning. I know how devastating that can be, and I hope you know we're all thinking about you.

Its so hard to lose a pet. While some just view them as animals, for those who have them and love them they are part of the family! Sorry for the loss.

Michelle's outed me. It was the new puppy I am sorry to say - I haven't gone into detail on Twitter and Facebook. I'm on long haul book tour and re-enacting the rest of this week thru to Monday and with the grieving too, don't want to deal with it all on FB in detail.
Basically Jack-Jack was knocked over and killed by a car. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was off the lead and chased a cat. It was late evening - 10pm and our village road is usually very quiet at that time. A few seconds earlier or later and he'd have been fine. We were just coming off a country footpath where the dogs are safe to be unleashed when it happened and he shot off before dh could leash him. It was a single blow to the head. He was otherwise unmarked and he died just about instantly. Dh got to him, picked him up; he wagged twice and died.
When I can bear to do so, I will amend his blog and write an obit to tie things off, but it won't be yet. I need some space. We've buried him under the apple tree and I have candles burning on his grave tonight. (It happened Sunday). He was born December 17th and had 5 months. This was his first and last spring and it's heart-wrenching to see all this bursting new life around and know that J-J's time is done.
We've actually been to look at some Patterjack pups today and have put a deposit on two - they'll be ready towards the end of June. They won't replace Jack-Jack, but they will help us to heal even while we grieve, and we had JJ originally because we wanted another dog. That hasn't changed.
Here's his blog as it stood on the 16th May. http://jackjackthepatterjack.blogspot.com/

Such awful news; poor Jack-Jack. My thoughts are with you. Years ago in Spain, we lost a puppy pretty much the same way. It is devastating.

I am so sorry for your and your family's loss.

What terrible bad luck and how sad for the older dog too.

We were lucky to keep our labrador into old age despite a couple of near misses but lost several of our cats very young on the road.

So sorry for your loss, EC. It's hard losing a pet at any age, but a puppy or kitten is especially sad. *Hugs* to you and your family.
