She deserves much praise, as do all the others who defied Nazis to help Jews. May she rest in peace.

AMSTERDAM - Miep Gies, the office secretary who defied the Nazi occupiers to hide Anne Frank and her family for two years and saved the teenager's diary, has died, the Anne Frank Museum said Tuesday. She was 100.

Gies' Web site reported that she died Monday after a brief illness. The report was confirmed by museum spokeswoman Maatje Mostar, but she gave no details. The British Broadcasting Corp. said she died in a nursing home after suffering a fall last month.

I've read her book, Anne Frank Remembered, a few times. Amazing story.

Pretty impresive to live to 100.

I shared this with my 8th grade students today, who are finishing up Anne Frank's diary. They had been impressed when I told them a while back that Miep was still alive and they were saddened today to hear of her death. Miep and the others who helped the eight people in hiding were true heroes.

Chime to what others have said.
There was a TV movie made in the 80s about her and her role hiding the family.

People Magazine has a short article about her. Her first name was Hermine.
